New Mining Minister takes office

March 2018: After being sworn in as the incumbent Minister of Mining, Baldo Prokurica reiterated the need for development and investment in the local industry. Among the challenges that his office will face include reactivating the paralyzed mining projects which exceed US$50B and the creation of a Presidential Advisory Commission to prepare the National Mining Policy for the years 2018-2050, which requires the participation of the public and private sector, the academic world and civil society.
Other priorities include establishing an Investment Project Management Office and the increasing regional governments┬┤ mining royalty to promote innovation.
