December 2017: Mining investment in Chile will increase by 32% over the next decade, according to the annual report issued by the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco). Its forecasts indicate US$ 64,856 million for 2017-2026, which is an increase of US$ 15,648 million compared to the preceding period.
But even though the price of copper has moved upwards and the industry seems to be reactivated, some stakeholders continue to be cautious.
Chile will elect its President for 2018- 2022 in two weeks time. Sebastian Piñera and Alejandro Guillier will participate in the second round and the winner must focus on mining sector growth.
