Llurimagua Project agreement signed between Chile and Ecuador

March 2018: Aurora Williams, the Chilean Minister of Mining and Rebeca Illescas, the Minister of Mining in Ecuador, signed a joint declaration to encourage cross-country cooperation and boost cooper production in the Ecuadorian Llurimagua project, with Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno in attendance.
The document solidified the commitment between the Chilean and Ecuadorian governments to accelerate the creation of a binational company which will drive the project up to the feasibility stage. The National Mining Company of Ecuador (ENAMI EP) will control of 51% of the project, while Chile´s state-run mining company Codelco will hold 49%. Codelco began exploration work in Llurimagua in 2011 and the advanced exploration stage will be completed later this year, according to a statement from Minister Illescas.
“The immense experience of Chile, added to our great mining potential, foretells better days for this sector in Ecuador,” said President Moreno. Chile´s government changed on Sunday, with Baldo Prokurica appointed as Aurora Williams´ successor.
