Consolidating an opportunity

May 2016: Following promising discoveries on the Maricunga belt, Kingsgate Consolidated (ASX: KCN) is re-orientating to focus on opportunities in Chile and Latin America.

The Australian company was originally formed to explore for mineral deposits in Thailand which had just opened up to foreign investment. In 1995, KCN discovered Chatree, a low sulfidation gold deposit in central Thailand, 280km N of Bangkok, which it brought into production in November 2001. Over the last fifteen years, nameplate capacity has been expanded from 1Mtpa to 6.2Mtpa in 2012 so that the mine now produces around 130,000ozpa Au.
