Beyond copper

September 2016:  Say Chile to a miner, and the next word is likely to be copper. The South American country is the source of almost a third of the world’s supply of the red metal and hosts a roughly the same proportion of global reserves.
It is also home to both the world’s largest producer (Codelco) and the largest copper mine (Escondida). Another three of the world’s ten largest copper mines by production are located in Chile.
