Noviembre 2016: President Michelle Bachelet has named Erich Schnake Walker as the country’s new Deputy Mining Minister, replacing Ignacio Moreno, in the latest adjustment to her executive team.
Schnake, a lawyer from the University of Chile with postgraduate studies in Australia and the US, has worked as a consultant and legal advisor and since 2015 as an advisor to the institutional political division of the Ministry of the Secretary General of the Presidency.
He was also ran unsuccessfully to become a councillor in Santiago for the Party for Democracy (PPD) in last October’s municipal elections.
In his Twitter account, Schnake thanked: “President Bachelet for the trust placed in me in the post of Deputy Mining Minister.”
The president also accepted the resignations of Government Secretary General, Marcelo Diaz, Labor and Social Welfare Minister, Ximena Rincon, and Sports Minister, Natalia Riffo, naming Paula Narvaez, Alejandra Krauss and Pablo Squella as their respective replacements.
Diaz and Rincon are expected to run for Senate seats in next year’s national elections.
The president also named a new Deputy Minister for Transport, a new intendent for Region of Aysen and new governors for the provinces of Tamarugal, Copiapo and Petorca.
